Child and Adolescent Psychology

Kristina Armstrong specialises in providing psychological services to children, adolescents and their families. She is an experienced Educational and Developmental Psychologist and established SPACES to support the self-development of young people. Kristina believes that building self-esteem and encouraging a strong 'sense of self' forms the foundation for healthy development and wellbeing in children and adolescents.

Kristina conducts educational assessments, provides counselling and educational coaching services, runs behaviour management sessions for parents, and conducts school meetings and visits.

Counselling

Through counselling young people learn strategies to help manage their emotions, tame their unhelpful thoughts and build confidence and self-esteem. Counselling helps with anxiety, depression, friendship issues, anger, stress, relaxation and more. Counselling is not just for children, but also for parents. Learn to manage your child's difficult behaviours and support the development of their emotional intelligence.

Assessments

Psychological assessments are useful to identify a student's learning abilities and are helpful to identify learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), giftedness, school readiness or under achievement.

Understanding your child's learning profile assists with:

  • Helping children to learn
  • Curriculum planning: focusing on strengths as well as weaknesses
  • Setting educational goals
  • Insight into social-emotional, and behavioural difficulties

Everyone learns differently. Understanding the way your child thinks and processes information can assist with their levels of academic achievement and success at school. When a young person understands how they learn and why they think the way they do, it promotes a sense of empowerment, identity and self-understanding…and this in turn can strengthen self-esteem, confidence and a willingness to learn.

Educational Services

Educational services include educational coaching for students, VCE coaching, school meetings, classroom visits, behavioural observations, and training for school staff. Educational coaching teaches the vital skills for success including motivation, goal setting, organisation, planning, time management, exam preparation, study skills, relaxation and stress management.
